PAC Myths

Here are some common misconceptions about Parent Advisory Councils and parent involvement:

MYTH: Only Executive Members can make decisions and be involved.

TRUTH: Not true! If you’re a parent or guardian of a child at Dorothy Peacock Elementary, you’re already a member of the PAC. Your voice matters—whether you join us often or just once in a while.

MYTH: If I show up at a meeting, I’ll be roped into fundraising.

TRUTH: Nope! Most of our fundraising decisions are made early in the school year and are totally optional. If fundraising isn’t your thing, that’s perfectly okay—just being there is enough.

MYTH: I can only be involved if I’m free during the day.

TRUTH: Definitely not! We welcome help of all kinds, and much of it can be done on your own time. Evening meetings happen every 4–6 weeks, and you’re welcome to join whenever it works for you.

MYTH: The PAC is just made up of moms.

TRUTH: Absolutely not! Dads are a vital part of our school community too. We’ve got a great group of dads who attend meetings and help out—everyone is welcome!

MYTH: If I offer to help, I’ll be stuck volunteering all year.

TRUTH: No way! We’re a low-pressure group that understands busy schedules. Volunteer when you can, and only if you want to. There are flexible, one-time opportunities—no strings attached.

MYTH: the PAC is only for Fundraising.

TRUTH: While fundraising is one part of what PACs do, the main purpose is to represent the parent voice in the school community—offering input on programs, policies, and initiatives that support students.

MYTH: I have to attend every meeting to be involved.

TRUTH: Not at all! Parents can help in many ways—volunteering at events, donating items, sharing ideas, or simply staying informed through updates.
